Gary McAuley, founder and President of Sunwest Energy, learned the petroleum trade from his Father, Chuck, who owned McAuley Oil Company.
Gary McAuley formed an oil trading company, McAuley Energy Group, in 1982. Finding a niche in environmental cleanup, McAuley Energy Group morphed into Sunwest Energy Corp. in 1986.
Sunwest grew to 3 facilities handling a variety of hazardous materials, ranging from waste oils to paint thinners and antifreeze. By 1998 Sunwest had grown to 18 employees, with 3 facilities handling over 300 customers.
Thermo Fluids, a large environmental company, purchased the fixed assets of Sunwest Energy in 1998. Gary McAuley retained the ownership of the corporate shell.
After the sale of these fixed assets, Sunwest found a new life as an Energy Management company, working with a diverse customer base of large and small companies as well as government with their energy needs.
In 2009 Sunwest formed a Canadian company – Sunwest Environmental – to work the same clientele base north of the U.S./Canadian boundary. As of 2012 Sunwest is helping both Canadian and U.S.A. clients with their energy needs.
